MH2-RC Hydrogen Engine: A Novel Design

The MH2-RC engine is a proof-of-concept prototype, a non-reciprocating internal combustion engine designed to operate on 100% hydrogen fuel. Its design differs significantly from conventional internal combustion engines (ICEs), aiming for improved efficiency and power output from hydrogen fuel, which typically has lower energy density than gasoline or diesel.

Key Features and Specifications

- Non-Reciprocating Design: Unlike traditional ICEs with reciprocating pistons, the MH2-RC utilizes a different mechanism, boasting only five main moving parts. This design eliminates the need for pistons, crankshafts, valves, and gears, potentially leading to reduced friction and wear.

- Mechanical Leverage Advantage: The engine incorporates a mechanical leverage system, providing a claimed 50% advantage over existing engines. This results in increased torque and potentially higher efficiency.

- Rapid Combustion: The design facilitates a rapid combustion phase, minimizing the risk of detonation, a common problem in hydrogen engines.

- Fuel and Operation: The engine runs on 100% hydrogen, regulated at a pressure of 1-4 lbs. The firing sequence is 90 degrees, occurring four times at 157cc per 360-degree rotation, suggesting a unique combustion cycle.

- Single and Multi-Stage Configurations: The prototype is a single-stage 625cc engine. The design is scalable, envisioning multi-stage units with displacements up to 2000 liters, suitable for heavy-duty marine and industrial applications.

- Advantages: The MH2-RC is touted for its durable and uncomplicated construction, ease of servicing, zero emissions (producing only water vapor), vibrationless operation, and compact size and weight (approximately 25kg for the 625cc prototype).

- Patenting: The design is protected by a New Zealand patent (2008-2025) held by J.S. Morris.
